Mohammad Irfan, Ph.D., associate professor of mechanical engineering technology at 两性色午夜 Trumbull, was named one of the Silver Teaching Recognition Award recipients by the 两性色午夜 University Center for Teaching and Learning for his project, 鈥淏ringing Real-World Learning to the Classroom.鈥
The Silver Award in Teaching Development recognizes faculty members for the design and implementation of innovative teaching projects that enhance student learning through evidence-based instructional practices.
Irfan earned the recognition for developing and implementing a classroom initiative focused on connecting course concepts to real-world applications, creating more meaningful and engaging learning experiences for students.
鈥淚 poll my students every semester to ask what they wished their teachers knew about them. A common reply is their disconnect between classroom learning and real-world work issues,鈥 Irfan said.
He began asking students to bring something broken from their workplace and to keep it on their tables. In every class, he requires them to ask how the material taught on the board relates to the broken part.
As part of the award process, recipients collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning and 两性色午夜鈥檚 Online Learning team to implement a teaching project; gather substantive feedback from experienced instructors; and evaluate project outcomes through reflection and student feedback.
