Introducing Adelynn:

Meet Adelynn Prushing, originally from Richmond, Texas, a ����ɫ��ҹ senior fashion design major, graduating this upcoming May 2026. Adelynn is a very active student on campus and is a member of ����ɫ��ҹ’s Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta and the Fashion Student Organization (FSO), as well as an officer for the Identity Project. Additionally, Adelynn is finishing up her Senior Honors Thesis/Project this semester on how to incorporate sustainability in fashion. Adelynn also has a website called the that showcases her work and ideas.

From Texas to ����ɫ��ҹ:

Making the decision to move across the country can be extremely intimidating, especially when it comes to deciding between colleges. For Adelynn, after a visit to the ����ɫ��ҹ School of Fashion, she knew right away that it would be one of her top choices.

When describing her experience leading up to choosing ����ɫ��ҹ, Adelynn explains, “Eventually Kent won me over with their resources and it seemed overall they had more that I could learn about instead of just having to focus on one aspect of fashion. I could really explore whatever I wanted, and that just really appealed to me. I knew I could grow and learn at my own rate and kind of figure out where I want to be since I didn't really know where in the fashion world I wanted to be at the time.”

While at ����ɫ��ҹ University, Adelynn has taken part in a variety of experiences that support her career in fashion. During the spring 2025 semester, she studied abroad in Florence, Italy. Last summer, she completed an internship in Queens, New York, at a small-batch knitwear company that helped her prepare for her Senior Honors Thesis/Project. There, she gained hands-on experience in the manufacturing process and further developed her skills in clothing design.

Being an Honors Student: 

The ����ɫ��ҹ University Honors College provides the opportunity for students to grow academically and make a meaningful impact on the world around them. For Adelynn, the Honors College has provided an opportunity to connect her academic interests with her goals in the fashion industry while taking part in a more personalized learning environment.

When reflecting on her experience, Adelynn explains, “What impacted me when joining the Honors College was valuing knowledge and wanting to be surrounded by others who feel the same. Having classes that are more tailored to students who want to grow and learn creates a better experience. I appreciate the smaller class sizes, the more personal connections with professors, and the ability to work on projects that reflect who I am. All of these factors ultimately led me to join the Honors College.”

Adelynn’s Fashion and Honors Thesis/Project:

In her research, Adelynn has explored how to design natural fibers into a knitwear collection. Her collection has inclusivity for all, while also addressing the sustainability side of fashion. Adelynn has been taking lessons in sewing since she was nine years old, so when it came time for deciding on her future plans, pursuing fashion just clicked.

When discussing her collection, Adelynn explains, “The goal of these pieces within the collection are to be comfortable, mix and match in style, designed for all genders, durable, and suited for everyday wear. The collection aims to create knitwear that people would cherish, and garments that feel intentional, adaptable, and deeply connected to both the body and natural world.”

To ensure her collection makes an impact in the fashion community, Adelynn is creating fully fashioned knits using natural fibers and incorporating versatile, mix-and-match pieces. She describes, “The entire collection is made from natural fibers, helping reduce microplastics in both airways and waterways. Fully fashioned knits are also more sustainable because they produce less waste—you knit each piece to the exact shape needed. Additionally, the mix-and-match design of the collection supports sustainability, as it allows consumers to create multiple outfits from a single set of pieces, reducing the need to purchase additional clothing.” 

Working in Fashion After ����ɫ��ҹ:

After graduating from ����ɫ��ҹ this spring, Adelynn plans to pursue job opportunities in either Texas or Ohio. She hopes to find a position in knitwear that aligns with her passion for inclusivity and sustainability. In the meantime, she is awaiting results from several fashion competitions that could help bridge the gap between graduation and full-time employment. She’s anticipating these experiences will provide her with more exposure and experience, to help in her future career.
