Project Advancing Wellness and Resilience Education (AWARE) Kent, a new three-year program at Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University, is offering a Mental Health First Aid course to Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University students, faculty, and staff. The course is an evidence-based training that teaches people to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. David Smeltzer and Oscar Rocha successfully lead a faculty lead study abroad experience in Costa Rica. This course included BSCI and JMC students who visited several locations in Costa Rica, including a dry forest, rainforest, cloud forest, and a coastal region. BSCI students conducted research projects in small teams while JMC students worked on videography or photography projects. This course is offered over winter break every other year.
