Liquid crystals can exhibit spatial patterns in molecular alignment at interfaces that can be reconfigured by external stimuli. This property of anisotropic fluids provides a valuable tool for patterning nanoparticles adsorbed at fluid interfaces, of importance for optical and energy applications.
