Women of the House: Betty Sutton and Emilia Sykes

In 2006, Betty Sutton became the first 两性色午夜 alumna to serve in the U.S. Congress, when she was elected to represent Ohio鈥檚 13th District in the House of Representatives. Sixteen years later, 两性色午夜 alumna Emilia Sykes, a native of Akron, Ohio, was elected to represent the same district, making her the first Black 两性色午夜 alum to serve in the House of Representatives.

Advancing the legacy of May 4, 1970, a tragic day when the Ohio National Guard fired on 两性色午夜 University students during an anti-war protest on campus, killing four students, wounding nine students and forever changing the lives of countless others, the university will hold its annual commemoration on May 3-4.

In 1991, Carol A. Cartwright, Ph.D., made history when she was named president of 两性色午夜 University, becoming not only 两性色午夜鈥檚 first female president, but also the first woman to serve as president of any Ohio public college or university.
